Landscapes, Wildlife and something a little different.
Hello and welcome to my website. I am a British Landscape Artist and I work mainly in Oils painting the beautiful landscapes of the Yorkshire Coast, especially the wonderful seaside resort of Filey.
My Parents were Farmers and growing up in Troutsdale on the edge of Dalby Forest is where my love of wildlife came from. Much of my childhood was spent roaming the woods and riverbanks watching and studying the flora and fauna around me.
I have lived here in Filey for over 25 years and am still amazed by its ever changing beauty, be it a perfect summers day, thick fog in winter or even raining upwards! It was during one of my wanders along the beach that I had the Idea for Unearthed Art.
Unearthed Art - Something new and very unusual
Unearthed Art is something truly unique to the area and there is a little piece of Filey in each painting.
I forage among the cliffs of the bay collecting the different coloured pigments and clays which naturally occur in them. I then process them into oil paint and create the artwork of the cliffs. Some of the pigments create a very textured affect which is perfect for the abundant rocks and stones, some are richer and smoother perfect for other areas. Finally I create highlights by scratching through the paint.
One particular pigment has a slight green tinge to it and with a bit of imagination passes for grass but unfortunately I have yet to find anything on the beach that I can create a blue from. Until then, and Im still trying, I will have to have cloudy skies!
